Why Your Meta Ads Dashboard Is Lying to You

Stop relying on any single platform's reporting. Each one is biased toward claiming credit. The stack that works:
- Meta Ads Manager — for platform-specific metrics (CPM, CTR, frequency) and directional signals
- GA4 — for cross-channel session and conversion data
- Your backend/CRM — for actual revenue data tied to customer records
- Incrementality testing — for the only real answer to "did this ad cause this sale?"
The goal isn't perfect attribution. It's triangulation. When Meta says one thing, GA4 says another, and your Shopify dashboard says a third, the truth is in the pattern across all three.
Fix #3: Run Incrementality Tests
Geo-lift tests and holdout experiments are the gold standard. They tell you what happens when you turn ads off in a region or audience — the only way to measure true incremental impact.
Yes, they require statistical rigor and take 2-4 weeks. But they give you something no attribution model can: causal evidence that your spend is driving revenue.
Fix #4: Stop Reporting on Platform ROAS
This is the hardest shift, and it's cultural, not technical. If your weekly report starts with "Meta ROAS was 3.2x," you've already lost. That number is structurally unreliable. Instead, report on:
- Blended ROAS — total revenue / total ad spend across all channels
- MER (Marketing Efficiency Ratio) — total revenue / total marketing spend
- Customer Acquisition Cost — from your backend, not from Meta
- Incrementality-adjusted ROAS — if you've run lift tests to calibrate
